Dona Paula Beach
Named after Dona Paula de Menzes daughter of a British viceroy who killed herself when she was refused permission to marry Gaspar Dias a local fisherman. According to the local tragic love story she is seen emerging from the sea under moon lit night wearing pearl necklace. Fringed with palm trees and casuarinas groves it provides stunning view of the Mormugao harbor. It is very popular in the tourist circuit as it is situated near the capital Panjim.
Tourists indulge in water sports and sunbathing on warm soft sand. You can avail the services of the Dona Paula Sports club offering water-scooter, cycle and motorboat rides. Other adventurous sports are windsurfing, parasailing, harpoon fishing, kayaking and yachting.
This beach has witnessed shootings of many movies. Dona Paula offers very pleasant and temperate climate from October to May while monsoon spreads its magic from June to September.
There are many shops on the beach side which sells all types of goods. One must taste popular local Goan liquor specialties Feni and Port wine.
Travelers can choose from the multitude of hotels, guesthouses and beachside huts catering to all the budgets.
